Moving from a place you call home your whole life can be very daunting. Especially when you have everything somewhat planned ahead. Just recently, A Malaysian woman shared her experience of giving up her high-paying banking job in Malaysia so she could follow her husband over to Australia.

Hailing from Penang, Fara used to hold a position in the banking industry with a decent payout. However, as her husband has decided to continue his master’s studies in Australia, Fara has made the decision to support her husband by moving with him to the land down under.

After their move to Australia, she started looking for jobs in the same industry she was in back in Malaysia. Unfortunately, she revealed that getting a job there isn’t as easy because most of them would prioritise candidates who have local experience.

“I’ve tried applying for other jobs from other fields but to no avail as well”, she said.

With their family’s savings being used to cover their living cost in Australia, Fara had to find ways to sustain their livelihood before their family savings take a big hit.

Then, she registered for ABN, stating that it’s like SSM where you can operate your own business. Venturing into a cleaning business, Fara begin taking on cleaning jobs privately, as well as working in a children’s hospital.

Hard transitioning period, but no regrets

“The transition wasn’t easy, but I had to make it work”, she said.

Thankfully, with the assistance of her husband, she was able to persevere and sustain her family’s livelihood in Australia. Regardless of the hardships that she and her husband had to endure, she shared that she has no regrets.

“I’m happy because I’m still earning an honest living”, she said, feeling grateful.

Having experienced hardship when transitioning to a new country, Fara expressed her desires in helping other Malaysian students who looking to earn extra pocket money. She mentioned that she’d like to help out fellow Malaysians who are struggling as she understood what it feels like to struggle.

“Since cleaning jobs are pouring in, I won’t rule out the possibility of hiring a few to help”, she mentioned.
