Just last year, news reported that a new Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been elected and Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar will be taking over. Shortly, the installation date for the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been set to January 31.
No public holiday will be given in January 31
Following the news of the installation date, many speculations were going around town, saying that a public holiday may be on its way. However, just recently, Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil have announced that there will be no public holiday given, in conjunction with the installation date.
Speaking to the English daily, NST, Fahmi announced that the matter was not discussed during the cabinet meeting. Elaborating further on the matter, the minister of communications also mentioned that there will be no cabinet meetings held until the installation of the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“The matter was not discussed during the cabinet meeting and the next meeting will take place after the installation ceremony of the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong”, said Fahmi during a press conference.
Currently, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is fulfilling his national duties, where his term is set to end on January 30,2024.
