Work ethics are considered as one of the most important things an employee should have as it could affect your work efficiency and professional credibility. And among some of the most unethical things to do as an employee is to fake an MC just so one could get out of work.
Worker caught red handed after allegedly purchasing a fake MC
Just recently, a clinic in Ampang has shared that they received a call from a company to verify if there one of their workers had visited them and was given 5 days off work. In their recent post, they’ve shared that a patient’s record details are typically kept for 7 years before being deleted, allowing them to cross-reference patient information when required.
Upon receiving the call, they proceeded to check their system and realised that the record for the worker in question wasn’t found.
Following that, they’ve realised that the worker must have bought a fake Medical Certificate (MC) and implicated one of the clinic’s doctors as a consequence, who had to write up a report on the matter after her name appeared on the forged document.
Upon investigating into the authenticity of the MC, the clinic managed to trace it to another female patient from their records based off on the MC’s serial number, and reached out to them to learn more.
When contacted, the woman has shared that she has sent her MC to a few of her friends prior to this but she is unsure as to which one of them could have used the MC for illicit purposes.
Clinic files police report over the matter
Speaking to WauPost, the clinic said that their conversation with the implicated worker who was first caught using the forged MC yielded no concrete findings as to where she obtained the falsified document from.
“When we asked her about it, she told us that she bought the MC from our clinic itself. Shortly after, she changed her statement and mentioned that she bought it through a runner.
But after probing further on the details for the runner she used, she then said that she bought it online”, they said.
Following that, the clinic has urged netizens to beware of such acts as it could lead to serious repercussions.
“Faking MC or lying about MC can be considered as a crime and it could lead to serious consequences. If you’re sick, please head to your nearest clinic and get the official MC.
If you couldn’t get MC, please apply for leave even if it’s unpaid. But if you’re really unhappy with your job, please try and find a new one”, they mentioned.
As of now, the clinic involved in this ordeal has shared that a police report has been made and are looking into taking legal action.
Here’s a gentle reminder to always think before you act, lest you get yourself in deep trouble!
