As cost-of-living rises, plenty of Malaysians would make the decision of living home and working in a different country in hopes of earning more and providing a better future for their family. Just recently a Malaysian fresh graduate, Wong Wei Jie has shared that she managed to obtain a job in our neighboring country, Singapore.

According to local newspaper Utusan Malaysia, Wei Jie has completed her studies in Business Administration in UUM obtaining a 3.84 GPA, before setting foot to Singapore. Following her journey, she is now a ‘Global Management trainee’ in her company and earns a whopping RM11,000 per month.

Sharing her thoughts, Wei Jie said that life in university versus life at work have very noticeable difference especially in terms of inter-departmental networking and building relationships with other co-workers.

“Knowledge may be important but the skills and experience you gain is what shapes your future”, she said.

Friends, family and lecturers are my pillars of strength

While it’s undeniable that hard work pays off, Wei Jie expressed her gratitude towards her family, friends and lecturers for providing her with unwavering support. She also highlighted her alma mater, UUM, mentioning that they emphasise on both co-curricular activities and academic excellence.

Wei Jie shared that her involvement in co-curricular activities have taught her so much in terms of time management. In order to excel in both areas, she said that time management is crucial as she has to ensure that she was able to cope with the responsibilities and commitment.

“It’s only when you’re involved in co-curricular activities and excel in your studies is where you’ll get a true taste of the university life, she said.
