Much of Malaysia’s labour force is dependent on migrant workers who hail from other parts of the world, travelling across great distances to take up jobs that are indispensable, yet shunned by locals. And one can only imagine how much they miss the familiar comforts of their home countries, when they are away for years, if not decades on end to earn a living for their families.
A testament of that can be seen in a brief conversation that Malaysian netizen @abe_bakar had with a Nepalese security guard recently.
M’sian helps make Nepalese guard’s wish to enjoy a traditional dish come true
As they were chatting, he decided to ask the security guard if there were any foods in particular that he has not had the pleasure of enjoying in a very long time. After pondering on the question for a moment, the Nepalese native said that he hadn’t eaten a traditional dish from his home country known as Nepali momo.
For those not in the know, Nepali momos are a variety of dumplings that are typically available in many Nepalese eateries. Made with either chicken, buffalo, or vegetable filling, they are steamed and served with a sauce known as achar.
After their brief exchange, he then told the guard that he will see him the next day. The video then cuts to him preparing the ingredients to cook the dish. Having not heard of the dish, he had to do some research to be able to prepare it from scratch.
He then started by chopping up some raw ingredients like cilantro and onions, then proceeded to dice up the chicken breast he bought to make the dumplings, which are Tibetan in origin. Once they have been suitably prepared, he proceeded to return to the same spot to look for the same guard, before handing him a container full of momos.
The guard excitedly tried a piece and was surprised to find that it tasted really good, giving it his seal of approval with a thumbs-up. Following that, he asked the man as to where he purchased the dish, with the netizen telling him that he made it himself. In a state of disbelief, the Nepalese man remarked that the dish tasted incredibly authentic, and that he enjoyed it thoroughly.
“It’s very tasty and thank you so much!”, he told the content creator.
