When riding the LRT, there are obviously a few rules that one is expected to follow to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety. Chief among them include standing behind the yellow line while waiting at a platform, and of course, never climbing down the tracks under any circumstances to retrieve your items, should you drop them.

That advice was clearly not heeded by one passenger, who recently endangered his life for the sake of collecting a pair of earphones that accidentally fell into the tracks.

M’sian man detained for picking up earphones from LRT tracks

As reported by local newspaper Sinar Harian, a 23-year-old commuter’s earphones had fallen onto the tracks while he was waiting for the train at the Taman Paramount platform. Instead of alerting members of station staff, as one should do, the man decided to try and retrieve his belongings by climbing down onto the tracks.

The incident was believed to have occurred on Monday (March 27th) at around 8.09am in the morning, causing alarms to go off. Local authorities were called to the scene shortly after that.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said a report was received at 9.28am regarding a man trespassing on the tracks of Platform 1 in Taman Paramount. The man was detained by the auxiliary police that were on duty at the station and was later handed over the police for further investigations.

As a consequence of his actions, the trains were delayed for 3 minutes.

“The 23-year-old man has been detained and was charged in the Petaling Jaya court under section 62 of the Railways Act 1991”, he said.

He then further advised the public to always obey the law and not engage in any criminal acts. Please be wary of your personal safety and not trespass the railway tracks. If you’d like to retrieve any personal belongings that has fallen on the tracks, please let the auxiliary police or staff help you with your items.
