M’sian ice cream seller gives out free ice cream for OKU customers
A 1-minute clip showcasing the ice cream seller’s story has sparked a wave of emotions across the Internet. Foodie co-founder Rui Mei uploaded the video, in which she meets the ice cream seller who runs his business at the Bagan Ajam rest stop in Penang.
He sells a variety of ice creams, with affordable prices up to RM4. However, he reserves a special exception for those who are Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) or disabled, as they get to enjoy his ice creams for free!
In honor of his late son who was disabled
The pain of losing a child is indescribable. Yet, this ice cream seller channeled his grief into a noble endeavor – giving back to the community, especially those who face similar challenges.
He explained that his intention was a heartfelt way of honoring his late child’s memory. “I used to have a son, he was an OKU too,” he says. His actions not only brought joy but also shed light on the importance of inclusivity and compassion in society.
As a show of support, Rui Mei proceeded to purchase 50 ice creams for visitors who were at the area. Kids can be seen rushing to claim their free dessert, as the ice cream seller and his wife happily look on.
