East Malaysia is truly a treasure trove of Malaysia’s most incredible natural treasures, whether it be pristine beaches that stretch for kilometres around, dense rainforests that house some of the world’s most complex biomes, to staggeringly high mountain peaks that reach for the clouds. And where mountain peaks are concerned in Malaysia, it goes without saying that Sabah’s Mount Kinabalu easily reigns supreme as the tallest in the country.
Being an exceedingly popular destination for keen tourists or avid hikers alike who are looking for a bit of a challenge, it isn’t unusual to see the mountain’s summit dotted with people swaddled in thick parkas or windbreakers as they savour their accomplishment of scaling it from an elevation of 13,435 feet.
Hikers amused to encounter FoodPanda ‘rider’ at Mount Kinabalu summit
With that said, not many were prepared to suddenly encounter a rather familiar face at the very top of Mount Kinabalu: a FoodPanda delivery rider, dressed the company’s signature bright pink uniform!
A video clip that was shared by local netizen @aameewa four days ago documented the peculiar encounter as she was photographing the sights upon arriving at the summit herself.
Showing how the man jogged his way across while decked out in pink, complete with a food delivery backpack, she jokingly suggested that he had made his way up to the mountain’s peak to complete a delivery order.
“Thanks FoodPanda bro for delivering my McDonald’s order from Tawau to the peak of Mount Kinabalu!
Look at how fast he runs. Someone please help identify him, I’d like to buy him a Starbucks! ” she wrote.
And it didn’t take too long for the Internet to do its job as the short but amusing clip quickly went viral across social media, garnering a total of 2.9 million views since it was uploaded.
Wanted to make memories with his first hike up the mountain
Eventually, the FoodPanda hiker was finally identified as avid outdoor enthusiast @nasirsabara94, otherwise known as Nasir!
In speaking with Wau Post, he shares that he is currently working as a food delivery rider, but was naturally not on the clock during the time the viral video was filmed.
“Initially, I had just wanted to hike up Mount Kinabalu in regular clothes. But I wanted to try something fresh, as this was my first time scaling the summit.
So I decided to bring my food delivery rider uniform up along with me to take photos with.” he said.
He adds that he would often go out hiking with his older sister.
Well, there’s no denying that he well and truly did make a lasting impression with his idea!
