When travelling in Sabah, you would be remiss not to make a brief stop at Mount Kinabalu to take in the cool weather and incredible sights, which many have often compared to the Nordic countryside for its bucolic beauty.
And for those who are truly up for the challenge, one can always marvel the beauty of the state from the mountain’s summit at an elevation of 13,435 feet. After all, for those not in the know, Mount Kinabalu is the third tallest peak on an island, coming after Puncak Jaya in New Guinea and Mauna Kea in Hawaii.
Japanese tailor scales Mount Kinabalu in a full suit
While it is common for many tourists, both domestic and foreign, to make the trek up the mountain, most are typically seen outfitted in a myriad of appropriate gear that would make sense for the cooler climate and physically demanding trek, such as parkas and hiking boots. But one Japanese tourist decided to omit the use of all that, and went with a rather unconventional choice in attire instead.
As shared by Mount Kinabalu hiking porter @iceeminn123 two days ago to his TikTok page, he recounts how he had stumbled upon a Japanese tourist making his way up one of the mountain’s pathways, dressed most curiously in a prim and proper blue three-piece suit, complete with a dress shirt, tie, and business shoes from the footwear brand Asics!
Another porter, @rogonnabalu_25, met him at the summit and jokingly asked if he was done with his ‘meeting’.
Well as it turns out, the man has since been identified as Mr Nobutaka Sada, a tailor who specialises in crafting immaculate business suits under his own brand, Sada. And part of his marketing efforts involves wearing his own creations in the most unexpected places, which he then proceeds to showcase on his YouTube channel.
Gained a number of Malaysian fans as well!
Taking to his Facebook page, Mr Sada spoke about his excitement at the prospect of climbing up to the mountain’s peak, which he points out measures even taller than Japan’s famed Mount Fuji. As for his suit, he was proud to say that it managed to endure the rain and the heat with no problems whatsoever, remaining crisp and sharp as he arrived at the summit for some truly incredible photos.
As a matter of fact, Mr Sada has turned into somewhat of a celebrity since his publicity stunt, and claims that he was even stopped at the Kota Kinabalu Airport by people who were curious to know if he was the same man that scaled the famous peak in a suit!
