Malaysia has never been short on talent, whether if we are referring to the world of entertainment or on the competitive sporting field. But in order for these talents to truly blossom, it is key that they receive the right opportunities as well as support from the relevant bodies within both the public and private sector, so that they may further hone their skills on the road to sucess.
Hannah Yeoh meets 12yo M’sian racing talent, Travis Teoh
To achieve that goal, Youth and Sports Minister YB Hannah Yeoh recently shared about her recent meeting with one such local talent who visited her at Parliament not too long ago. Recounting their encounter, she introduced Malaysians to 12-year-old motorsport hopeful Travis Teoh, who despite his young age has already caught the eye of some of the racing world’s most prolific names: two time F1 World Championship winner Fernando Alonso.
According to Hannah, Travis’ foray into the motorsports scene started when he was just 6-years-old upon joining Double R Motorsport (DRM) and was coached by the team’s owner, Mohd Rohairijaz Mohd Ropin.
“It is under DRM’s wings Travis won many National and International titles throughout his racing career.” she said.
Soon after gaining prominence as a potential racing talent, he would be headhunted and selected to join Alonso’s young talent development program. The program is established by A14 Management, which he co-founded alongside his own manager, Alberto Albilares, and Albert Resclosa Coll.
With the hope of nurturing Travis’ potential in the professional circuit, Hannah even scheduled a call with Alonso and this team at A14 Management to discuss on the development of the young man’s career. When asked about whether he could share something about himself, Travis responded with one sentence that Hannah said left a ‘lasting impression’.
“I work really hard for everything, to make it happen and I’m still going to work harder”, he said.
As part of his ongoing training, Travis is currently based out of Italy.
Vowing to find new avenues through which she can help promote the nurturing and enhancing of of Malaysian talents through strategic partnerships, she also said that she did not want to miss out on an opportunity to show her support for a boy who could one day become a Malaysian world champion.
Congratulations on your achievements Travis! Continue to aim for the best, we’re rooting for you!
