Throughout the years, it’s undeniable that the cost of living as a whole across the country has risen considerably. And this is apparent when eating out as restaurants would have to combat the higher operating costs by raising their menu prices. With that said, it has become incredibly difficult to find a place that sells meals in a very affordable price.
Chicken rice stall that sells a pack of rice for RM3.80 gets criticised for unhygenic practices
Just recently, a chicken rice stall that’s located in Cheras has gone viral on social media for its cheap prices. Living in Kuala Lumpur, an average plate of chicken rice would cost at least RM7 but this shop has decided to sell it for only RM3.80. As their prices gain traction on media, it was revealed that the couple who operates the stall has been trying their best to keep the prices as low as possible for over 34 years!
It was said that when the couple had started running their stall, their plate of chicken rice was priced at RM0.50 but as time passes and the increasing inflation rate, they have no choice but to increase their pricings. The video then showcased an uncle preparing the dish, chopping up the chicken before placing it onto the rice.
For takeaway orders, the uncle was seen preparing the food but instead of serving it on a plate, the food was placed on a transparent plastic before it was wrapped with newspaper.
As the video makes its wave on social media, many netizens have commented giving their feedback to the uncle, hoping that they will improve their hygiene practices by wearing gloves.
Here’s what some of them said:
“I hope the boss can change and wear gloves when preparing for the food.”
“Maybe the uncle can place the plastic wrap onto the newspaper when he’s about to pack the rice? If you place the plastic on the newspaper and stack them up, wouldn’t the plastic be contaminated.”
“I think it’s better to wear gloves and perhaps he can use banana leaves to wrap his food instead.”
