But for those living abroad, you’ll be glad to know that our fellow enterprising Malaysians have taken to exporting our local food culture to foreign lands by setting up a string of restaurants in other international cities.
British YouTuber describes Malaysian restaurant as her favourite place to dine in London
Chief among these worldly capitals includes the stories city of London in England, which over the decades has played host to a smattering of rather popular and successful Malaysian eateries. And just recently, a British YouTube content creator took many local netizens by surprise when she shared how one such eatery happened to be her favourite place for a meal in London!
In a video uploaded by ClickForTaz created in partnership with Google Pixel, Taz documents her experience in trying foods from different parts of the world in the span of a week. This was accomplished by visiting a number of specialty food markets as well as restaurants that catered to a myriad of cuisines, such as Brazilian, Japanese, and Lebanese.
By the end of her week, she capped things off by visiting London’s Queensway Market, which is an indoor market that houses over 100 different independent businesses, many of which include restaurants from all corners of the world.
A visit to Normah’s in Queensway Market
Navigating the market’s corridors with a Malaysian friend named Jay, they eventually made their stop at a homey, unassuming Malaysian restaurant known as Normah Café, tucked away in a corner.
“It was such a random little spot, it felt like I was stepping into someone’s home. Very authentic and wholesome vibe,”
“Like this doesn’t feel like a place in London,” she notes.
Settling in, the duo proceeded to kick off their meal with drinks. Taz ordered a classic teh tarik, while Jay ordered a mint lemonade which came recommended from the restaurant.
“Oh, I like it so much. It feels like a warm hug,” Taz said after taking her first sip of teh tarik.
However, the mint lemonade fared worse, with Jay describing it as tasting like Sprite.

They then tucked into a hearty serving of roti canai with dhal.
“The roti was flakey and crispy, just how it’s supposed to be,”
“It’s so wholesome,” she adds.
This was followed by a plate of mi goreng with king prawns, which Taz mentions tasted like a recipe for peanut butter spicy noodles that she had recently made, likely owing to the sambal.
“I think this is probably one of my Number One favourite places in London for food,”
Lastly, their meal ended on an all-time classic note, nasi lemak served with beef rendang. (Don’t worry, it wasn’t crispy.) When asked if she would ever grow bored of nasi lemak after having it so many times, Jay answered with a resounding ‘no’. We second that notion.
Taz concluded her visit to Normah Café with a 10 out of 10 rating, which is par on course for the restaurant’s reputation on Google Reviews with a robust 4.7-stars.
