Over the years, the public transport system in Malaysia has been improving drastically. With that said, the government’s effort in trying to make cities more accessible is truly apparent. Following the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), project, it was announced that it’s estimated that it will be completed by December 2026!
ECRL: From Gombak to Kota Bahru, Kelantan in just 3 hours!
According to Bernama, it was reported that the progress for the highly anticipated project is going rather well, with 67% of the construction fully completed. Investing over RM50,2 billion into ECRL, the rail link is said to connect the east and west coast, with 20 stations spread across 4 states, which are:
- Selangor
- Pahang
- Kelantan
- Terengganu
Elaborating further, the ECRL is estimated to be up and running by 2027. As of now, the land travel time from Selangor to Kelantan would take 7 hours and even longer during the festive seasons.
With the express services it will be providing, public transport users can expect a shorter journey time, highlighting that it will only take 4 hours for the public to arrive in Kota Bahru, Kelantan from Gombak. Other than that, the travel time between Kota Bahru to Kuala Terengganu has also shortened significantly, going from 2 and a half hours to a mere hour.
Travellers can also expect a shorter travel time from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan and Kuantan to Bentong at 1 hour and 25 minutes and 1 hour 20 minutes respectively. With the ECRL traveling up to 160 kilometers per hour, the travel time needed to reach Bentong from Gombak will only take 20 minutes!
This project is aimed to not only unite Malaysians further, but also to promote interstate travels, as well as facilitate the growth of the country’s economy.
