The Search and Rescue (SAR) Operation for Batang Kali Landslide in Father’s Organic Farm officially came to an end on 25th December 2022 (Sun). The team successfully discovered the last victim on 24th Dec (Sat), who was believed to be 11-year-old Eng Shao Qi.
SAR Operation ends with a total of 92 victims in the Batang Kali landslide
As of the final update, the authorities concluded a total of 92 victims in this tragedy, including 61 survivors. The tragedy took away the lives of the remaining 31 victims, which consisted of 18 adults and 13 children.
The Batang Kali landslide hit in the early morning of 16th Dec, and the rescue mission lasted for 9 days. The decision to end this operation was made when the police confirmed that there were no more missing victims.
SAR team expresses relief and gratitude for the efforts and hard work
This operation involved various agencies, such as the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) and the Civil Defence Force.
Members of the SAR team and the agencies involved expressed relief and gratitude for all their efforts, hard work and success in the rescue operations. Applause and cheers resounded at the grounds as soon as the last victim of the Batang Kali landslide was recovered. The team members were seen to hug each other in comfort of finishing their tasks successfully after working tirelessly in the rescue mission that lasted for 9 days.
