Among some of the things that we Malaysians hold close and dear to our hearts is the unity that we share across all races. Which is why it should go without saying that mutual respect for one another, regardless of social standing, creed, or religious belief, plays an absolutely crucial role in maintaining social harmony within the local community.
PDRM looking for man who disposed statue of Hindu deity Ganesha into bin
However, it has been reported by local paper Free Malaysia Today that the local police are now on the lookout for a man who was recently caught on close-circuit television (CCTV) video disposing a statue of Hindu deity Ganesha into a rubbish bin. In the 42-second clip uploaded by netizen Krishnamoorthy Vichu, a man can be seen strolling down along what appears to be a residential street.
As he passes the front of a home that had been adorned with a small garden outside, he stops and approaches a water feature decorated with a statue of the Hindu deity Ganesha. Reaching out for the statue, he then carries it out before disposing it into a garbage bin that was placed outside the home. And almost as though he were attempting to hide the deed, he closes the lid on the rubbish bin before walking away.
Netizens angered by the deed committed
Understandably, the clip has left many netizens angered by his lack of regard for other religions, and potentially stirring religions tensions in the community.
The victim would go on to lodge a police report over the matter on the very same day. According to Kulai district police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow, the victim said the statue had been placed at the front of his home as a piece of decoration as opposed for any religious purposes, and had not sustained any damage as a result of the act.
It is believed that the incident took place at Taman Scientex Senai, Johor, on the 15th of May. The case will now be investigated Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in loss or damage, and police are in the process of tracking the man down.
