It isn’t unusual for tempers to get a little heated when getting behind the wheel in Malaysia, what with incidents of double-parking, tailgating, and other slights being commonplace. But that does not give us any right to take things into our own hands, or give in to our anger and resort to violence.
This would prove to be a lesson that one driver would have to learn the hard way, after he was caught turning to blows after confronting another motorist over a dispute on the road.
Mercedes driver beats up 67yo doctor in road rage incident
Video footage of the entire incident was initially shared to social media by local personality Caprice after an individual known only as Fazlee had reached out to him regarding the matter. According to the man, he claims that his wife had been on her way to work, when she witnessed the entire altercation unfold while waiting at a stop light.
“From what she said, the one who was being struck was a senior citizen of around 60-years-old.” he adds.
A white Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe appears to be blocking the path of a Subaru Forester SUV, before a man dressed in blue, which is presumed to be the driver of the Mercedes, alighted from his vehicle to confront the Subaru driver.
Pulling the door of the other car open, he appears visibly angered and can be seen raising his voice at the Subaru driver before suddenly lunging towards him into his car. Breaking into an all-out assault, the Mercedes driver even kicked the elderly doctor before using a slipper to strike him.
His violent outburst eventually attracted the attention of other motorists who slowed down to berate the aggravated Mercedes driver, who retaliated in kind. A silver Nissan Vanette van then pulled up alongside the Subaru to check on the elderly driver before the video cuts out.
An arrest has been made
A subsequent report by Harian Metro indicates that the driver of the Mercedes, who has been identified as a 27-year-old man, was subsequently detained by the police. It was said that the incident had been sparked after the victim had been involved in a minor accident with the aggressor, before driving up to a petrol station and pulling over.
“It is understood the suspect assaulted the victim because he was unhappy the victim refused to stop his vehicle at the site of the accident,” explained Ampang Jaya police chief Farouk Eshak.
As for the 67-year-old victim, who has been identified as a doctor, he was punched in the cheek, kicked in the hips and had his hair pulled.
The suspect was detained after he went to the Ampang Jaya police headquarters to provide a statement. He does not have any prior police record, and tested negative for drug use. Police will be investigating the case under Section 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
