Hiking has proven to be an increasingly popular outdoor activity for many urbanites seeking to find brief respite away from the stress and rigours of city living in the concrete jungle. However for one young woman, her hike into Bukit Tabur near the Taman Melawati area would result in a heart-racing ordeal when she went missing after entering the forest from Tabur East on Sunday at around 7.00am in the morning, reports local daily Sinar Harian.
26-year-old woman went missing after hiking in Bukit Tabur
According to Selangor state Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis, the hiker’s father had first reported her missing at the local police station before a search and rescue operation was launched to locate her whereabouts. The victim managed to contact her family and informed them that she had gotten herself lost when she could not locate the exit from the area four hours later, before sending her last known location to them via WhatsApp at 11.00am the same day.
55 members from the Multi Skill Team (Must), Bomba, Police, Civil Defence Department, Forestry Department, and Mosars, as well as volunteers were deployed in a two-day search, before she was successfully found yesterday (January 31st, 2023).
Local news outlet The Vibes reports that the missing hiker had sustained a broken leg as a result of falling into a ravine with a depth of 30-metres. It is understood that she had survived the past two days by drinking from a bottle of 100Plus isotonic beverage that she had brought along with her.
At the time of her rescue, she was found to be conscious and has since been brought to a hospital to receive treatment for her injuries.
