The Taiwan Tourism Administration, in collaboration with county and city governments, public associations, travel agencies, and theme park operators, has assembled a delegation of nearly 100 participants representing 51 organisations to attend the MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur. Taiwan was proudly designated as the “International Favourite Destination” at the MATTA Fair. This event marks the debut appearance of Malaysia’s new tourism ambassador for Taiwan, the renowned Muslim actress and singer, Nabila Razali, who will unveil Taiwan’s Muslim-friendly tourism video at the fair.

Several well-known influencers will also be present to share their experiences traveling in Taiwan. At the Taiwan Pavilion, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy performances from Taiwan’s contemporary circus, known for its appearances at international arts festivals. Additionally, a variety of interactive activities will be available, including screen printing on canvas tote bags, lion head ornament painting, and DIY Hakka Lei Cha making, all of which will showcase Taiwan’s unique cultural charm. The Taiwan Tourism Delegation will participate in the 2024 MATTA Fair from September 6 to 8 and will follow with a promotional event in Penang, Malaysia’s second-largest metropolitan area. According to the Taiwan Tourism Administration Kuala Lumpur Office, over 460,000 Malaysian tourists visited Taiwan in 2023, making Malaysia the top source market from ASEAN countries. From January to May 2024, 207,975 Malaysian tourists visited Taiwan, representing an 18.75% growth compared to the same period in 2023 (175,144 visitors). Malaysia remains the largest source of tourists from Southeast Asia to Taiwan.
The Taiwan Pavilion at the MATTA Fair, located on the third floor, will feature the globally popular theme of bubble tea, paired with Taiwan’s latest tourism branding initiative, “TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder.” The pavilion’s design will incorporate wave motifs that highlight Taiwan’s year-round travel destinations, including the Gaomei Wetlands in Taichung, the salt fields of Jingzaijiao in Tainan, and the scenic Guishan Island in Yilan, emphasizing the new trend of sustainable tourism. The 2024 Ambassador of Salam Taiwan, Nabila Razali, a highly popular actress and singer with over 3.5 million social media followers, will officially unveil the new promotional video, Jom Taiwan!, on August 22 in Taipei, attracting significant media attention. Deeply impressed by Taiwan’s diverse natural beauty and the warmth of its people, Nabila will share her experiences and the Jom Taiwan! video with fans at the Taiwan Pavilion on September 7.
The three-day event will also feature popular influencers like Safwan Nazri, football player Intan Serah, and Hakka celebrity Meeki, who will share their insights on Taiwan’s cuisine and travel highlights.
In addition to these exciting events, the Taiwan Pavilion will offer a range of live performances and interactive experiences. The renowned team from Taiwan’s Eye-Catching Circus, who previously performed at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the 2024 Paris Cultural Olympics, will showcase their acclaimed performances Island Celebrations and Realm of Mountain and Sea, blending traditional Taiwanese culture with modern circus arts. The pavilion will also provide hands-on activities such as screen printing on canvas bags with iconic Taiwanese images, painting intricate lion head ornaments, making delicious Hakka Lei Cha, and engaging in fun trivia about Taiwan’s tourism and a parkour game. Visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in Taiwan’s vibrant tourism scene.
To further attract Malaysian tourists to Taiwan, the Taiwan Tourism Administration is offering additional prizes in its “Taiwan the Lucky Land” promotion. Free EasyCard/SIM cards will also be available to independent travelers. A special Salam Taiwan section will be set up on the second floor of the fair, with 10 Muslim-friendly travel agencies selling Taiwan tourism products, boosting confidence in Taiwan as a Muslim-friendly travel destination.
The Taiwan Tourism Delegation will also hold a promotional event in Penang at G Hotel Gurney on September 10, inviting over 100 Malaysian outbound travel operators. This event will highlight Taiwan’s Muslim-friendly environment and foster partnerships with counties, national scenic areas, and the travel industry to expand the Malaysian market. Since 2019, Taiwan has consistently ranked in the top 3 non-OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) travel destinations on the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI). In 2024, Taiwan was ranked second in Insider Monkey’s “Most Popular Countries in Asia” report, demonstrating Taiwan’s rich natural scenery, unique cultural heritage, and globally renowned cuisine that continues to gain international recognition.
