For the sake of convenience, many food delivery companies now allow for a number of different ways to pay for your meals, whether it be through your credit/debit card, the ever-popular e-wallet, or even via cash-on-delivery. And yet despite that fact, there will continue to be those who seek to exploit the system and cheat honest businesses as well as food delivery riders out of their earnings.
FoodPanda rider left with RM100 bill after customer takes food and runs without paying
In a video clip that was uploaded by TikTok user @sokcantikkau, otherwise known as Layla, she shares how she had recently encountered a food delivery rider who had been wandering between a number of factories in an industrial area. According to her, the food delivery rider had been searching for a customer by the name of Nadia, who had ordered over RM100 worth of food before having it delivered to the area.

But instead of paying up-front using a credit/debit card or e-Wallet, the customer had apparently requested to complete the transaction via cash-on-delivery, which requires an understanding of good faith on the side of the customer that they will show up and pay as intended.
Unfortunately for this food delivery rider, the customer in question had simply collected the food from him before making a run for it without paying him the amount owed! Stuck with the bill, the rider was left with little choice but to wander between the factories in search of the missing customer to no avail.
Downtrodden, he could be seen sitting by the side of a factory’s entrance looking forlorn over his circumstances.
“Remember, not all riders are bad people. So don’t look down on them. If you were in their shoes, you’d understand what this feels like too.” Layla wrote.
Netizens offer to reimburse him with the money
According to local Chinese daily China Press, it was believed that the incident had taken place in Johor.
The video, which has since gone viral across local social media, saw many local netizens taking pity on the food delivery rider for being the victim of a scam. In fact, many have offered to chip in and help pay off the amount that was owed as a result of the unscrupulous customer’s acts.
“We need to find this Nadia and hold her accountable for her actions.”
“Could you find the rider? I’d like to help pay off his dues. What a pity.”
“Hi sis, could you contact this rider? I would like to help reimburse him.”
“May this FoodPanda rider be blessed with a place in Heaven for his patience.”
“For me as a FoodPanda rider, if they make a cash payment then it’s better not to hand anything over to them first as you could risk becoming the victim of a scam. He must be a new rider.”
