Malaysian students have earned a much-needed break from hitting the books with the commencement of the end of school year holidays that started on February 17th, 2023. However as we enter March, the new academic calendar is set to begin on the 11th, which means that most shopping malls and supermarkets will be offering their annual ‘Back to School’ promotions for parents.
Shopping mall displays creepy mannequin with school attire, scares netizens
True to the occasion, one local supermarket had also recently held their own promotions for the school crowd looking to buy new uniforms and other essential supplies. With that said, customers were not prepared to be greeted by a rather terrifying-looking mannequin who appears to have doubled as a prop for a horror-themed attraction!
In a series of photographs shared by local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, the spine-tingling figure was crudely decorated with black and red paint to indicate its facial features.
Dressed in a traditional Baju Kurung school uniform, the humanoid figure seems to look right at you while also simultaneously looking right past you with a thousand-yard gaze. And with its lips painted in a lurid red, you could be forgiven for thinking that you are being confronted by a vengeful apparition seeking to take revenge on those who have wronged her, instead of a supermarket display.
The taller female mannequin was accompanied by a shorter, but similarly unnerving one of a young boy wearing a placid expression on his face. Thankfully, without the overdrawn graphic eyeliner that his older sister was wearing, he only seems more disinterested and detached than genuinely vindictive.
As one can expect, photos of the duo have since gone viral over social media, with netizens sharing a number of hilarious responses.
“Honestly speaking, I think the paper dolls used for prayer rituals look better than the mannequin…”
“Ching Ming isn’t even here yet.”
“No wonder my kids refuse to go back to school.”
“I think if the lights are off and you see that mannequin, you’ll really be shocked to death.”
