American action star Vin Diesel has carved quite a substantial fanbase for himself over the years, what with his involvement in some of the most popular movie franchises from the turn of the millennium and beyond. Those of us who are a little older may remember him as the titular Riddick from The Chronicles of Riddick, or as superspy Xander Cage under the xXx series of blockbuster films.
But today, we tend to associate his gruff exterior and clean-shaven head with street racer patriarch Dominic Toretto, from The Fast and The Furious franchise.
Vin Diesel lookalike spotted in Johor Ramadan bazaar
And while we may think that Dom would be busy hatching a plan together to take down the next big baddie, this time played by Jason Momoa of Aquaman fame in the next and final installment of the FF series, it turns out that he may also be trying to support his family by running a small side-hustle in Malaysia. Everything for family, right?
This comes after a local netizen (@flamjars) recently took to his TikTok account to share his encounter with a man who, in both stature and appearances, could almost pass for a Vin Diesel body-double!
At the time, the man could be seen busy behind a stall selling the traditional Middle Eastern dessert kunafa at a Ramadan bazaar along Jalan Padi Mahsuri, Bandar Baru Uda in Johor.
Revealed to be Egyptian kickboxing coach & single-dad
According to local newspaper The New Straits Times, the Vin Diesel lookalike has been identified as 39-year-old Mr Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud Shokr, an Egyptian single father. Commenting on his surprise at his sudden fame in resembling the American actor, Mohamed admits to being a fan of Vin Diesel himself.
“I watched all The Fast and Furious action movies and really admired the talent of the American actor.”
“I didn’t expect people to notice the resemblance between myself and the actor, until my face went viral on social media,” he said
Of course, his fame has also helped promote his business selling traditional Middle Eastern food, with Mohamad claiming that he now makes about RM400 to RM600 in sales daily. Beyond his food stall, he also works as a kickboxing coach.
