At just 23 years old, Heerraa Ravindran is a singer who is already making big waves in the music industry. Her string of achievements is a true mark of her success, solidifying her reputation as an award-winning musician.
A rising star: M’sian singer-songwriter wins ‘Best Pop Original Award’
Speaking to Wau Post, Heerraa shared that her love for music started at a young age. However, her journey took a significant turn when she encountered ET Ideas and Ascendance as a teenager. This community of driven social entrepreneurs sparked a new vision in Heerraa, inspiring her to use her music as a force for positive change.
“That’s how my mission of changing the world with music came to life, to positively impact and empower audiences around the globe through catchy melodies and thoughtfully crafted lyrics that share life lessons with their listeners,” the singer shared.
Over time, she has penned more than 100 songs, exploring varied themes such as the pursuit of happiness (‘Feel Alive’), finding hope (‘Chasing Daylight’) and overcoming personal insecurities (‘Note to Self’).
From humble beginnings to international acclaim
Yet, Heerraa’s journey was not without its obstacles. In today’s digital age, producing a song often costs more than its revenue from streaming platforms. This financial strain made it challenging for her to create high-quality songs.
However, she found innovative ways to fund her passion. By performing at corporate events and producing theme songs and jingles for organisations, she managed to sustain her music career while also funding her education at Harvard.
In her mission to change the world with music, Heerraa received substantial support from her Patreon community. These music lovers contributed monthly to help her produce songs that eventually got airtime on radio stations across the globe. Together, they were able to create music that touched hearts and made a difference.
An international triumph: the Peter Pan story
When she first composed “Peter Pan,” Heerraa could never have imagined that this song would one day receive international acclaim. “The message behind the song is about staying young at heart and remembering the magical feeling you get when you experience new things in life.”
Her song “Peter Pan,” won an award at the International Red Carpet Award Show in the Netherlands. This was a significant milestone in her career, in addition to her impressive list of past awards. “Having received awards for my songs from across the US (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta and San Diego), I’m so so grateful to receive my first award in Europe for a song that is very close to my heart”, she recounts.

Heerraa’s musical journey is far from over. The singer recently released a new single, “Note to Self,” and kicked off her first set of shows in the US as part of the “Note to Self” tour. As a Voting Member of the Recording Academy, she looks forward to collaborating with top-tier musicians and creating transformative music.
Her future projects include corporate performances, theme songs, and impactful compositions. She is also keen to collaborate with brands and organisations that align with her mission to revolutionize the world through music. Also, she is set to perform at the Splash Carnival in Legoland Malaysia Resort, Johor Bahru, before continuing her US tour.
Inspiring the next generation: “Follow your heart”
So what does it take to make it big? Heerraa’s word of advice: finding an environment that supports your goals and vision. She credits her success to her supportive ecosystem at ET Ideas and Ascendance, which taught her the importance of building the right values and staying true to her heart.
On a final note, she emphasizes on remaining steadfast to our identity. “The second and most important thing is following your heart. Your heart often dreams of the craziest things that might seem unrealistic, but trust your heart and listen. Listening to your heart and finding the right environment is why I am here today.”
