M’sian teacher receives international recognition for being an environment activist!

Awarded for being active in environmental issues through his work, teacher Jerome, who is a mathematics teacher in a local primary school in Penang, has been recognised by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE)!

According to local newspaper Sinar Harian, this prestigious membership is awarded to those who are aged 21 to 30 and has helped the community in solving environmental issues through environmental teaching.

With that said, Jerome, who is now a member of the Environmental Education program will be supported with various assistance to carry out activities and other initiatives he has that could help with the community progress. On top of that, the dedicated teacher is also the chairman of the Green Educator’s Workgroup (GREW).

“GREW is a non-profit organisation designed to launch programs and initiatives that involves Education for Sustainable Development in Malaysia”, it wrote.

In an interview with the NAAEE, Jerome shared that the non-profit organisation he’s spearheading aims to develop a sense of care towards the environment in the community. With innovative solutions and initiatives, his objective is to educate and empower, teachers, students and other authorities on the importance of being more environmentally conscious.

“I want people to realise and understand how important it is to nurture and take care of our environment”, he mentioned.

Thankful for the prestigious recognition, Jerome aims to continue what he’s doing, in hopes that more people would be aware of how important it is to conserve our environment. For those who are unfamiliar, the NAAEE program was established over 8 years ago and has since awarded over 271 members in 56 different countries, for their efforts.
