Just a little over a week ago, six Malaysians have embarked on their journey where they will be riding their high-powered bikes through 16 countries within 66 days, in conjunction with Malaysia’s 66th year of Merdeka. The entire expedition, led by Arep Kulal will travel through countries including, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Hungary and Austria covering over 22,000km!

According to local newspaper NST, the group- Quantum Metal Ekspedisi Perpaduan Watikah Kemerdekaan 66 (QMEPWK66), has departed from London after a flag-off in front of Malaysia High Commission to United Kingdom office at 10am local time today by the High Commissioner Datuk Zakri Jaafar.

Following their journey, the group has now made its way to Bucharest, Romania, where they prepare for their next destination, Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. As they make a stop in Romania, they were treated to lunch with one of Malaysia’s local delicacies, chicken rice along with nasi goreng and kuih burger Malaysia.

After their flag-off by Malaysian Embassy in Romania charge d’ affaires Lim Hooi Sin, she mentioned that she is proud to see the spirits displayed by the group.

“I hope that their mission would end successfully as they arrive in Putrajaya on August 31, just in time for the Merdeka celebrations!”, she said.

She added on saying that the enthusiasm they possess is definitely commendable and a good move to put Malaysia on the map. The expedition is said to commemorate the history journey of Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, who brought the declaration of independence from London to Kuala Lumpur back in 1957.

Arep expressed how meaningful it is to be able to get a glimpse of what it was like back then when Malaysia gained its independence and is grateful for the opportunity given to embark on this journey.
