Drug addiction has often been attributed to a great number of social ills, whether it be the breakdown of families, the abuse and abandonment of children, or even instances of crime such as robberies to fund their drug use. Which is why many countries, especially within Southeast Asia, continue to impose harsh penalties upon those who are found guilty of abusing or trafficking these prohibited and illicit substances.
Four days ago, Thailand news portal, Thaiger has reported that the police have successfully detained a 25-year-old drug lord who was one of the main culprits behind Bangkok’s MDMA epidemic.
25yo drug lord undergoes plastic surgery to escape from authorities
Formerly known as Sarahat Sawangjaeng, the drug lord promptly made the decision to change his name to Jimin Cheong before undergoing plastic surgery to alter his identity and escape detection from the authorities It was reported that back in November 2022, the custom officials have found over 2,575 grams of MDMA and 290 ecstasy pills inside a jigsaw puzzle box from an incoming package that they intercepted.
As the police gathered all the information, they issued a warrant in December 2022 but unfortunately couldn’t track him down. Left with little choice, they made the decision to send in a police undercover as a drug mule expressing interest to work with Sarahat, who successfully made contact with him.
While conversing, the 25-year-old drug lord has expressed his desire to move out from Bangkok to South Korea and has agreed to help the undercover cop to purchase the drugs from the Dark Web, before peddling it onto the streets of Bahgkok. Following that, the undercover cop managed to learn that Sarahat was actually living in a luxury condominium located in Bang Na.
Upon arresting Sarahat, the police were shocked to see him as he had undergone multiple surgeries to ‘reconstruct’ his face, going so far as to say that Sarahat had almost no traces of his original face left and had instead transformed into a ‘handsome Korean man’.
“As of now, investigations are still ongoing and we’ve seized 22 of his assets and 2 mobile devices. We believe that there are more suspects in foreign countries and will continue to look into it”, said Pol. Maj. Gen. Thammasutee.
His was arrested under the suspicion of importing a Category 1 narcotic (MDMA) into Thailand for distribution, risking the security of the nation and the safety of the population.
